Proverbs 31

"Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life."
"She is energetic and strong, a hard worker."
"She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. She has no fear of winter for her household, for everyone has warm clothes."
"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness."
"Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her:'There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all'"
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise."
Proverbs 31:10-12,17,20-21,25-31

Proverbs 30

"Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. Do not add to his words, or he may rebuke you and expose you as a liar."
Proverbs 30:5,6

Proverbs 29

"Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back."
"To discipline a child produces wisdom..."
"Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind and will make your heart glad."
Proverbs 29:11,15,17

Proverbs 28

"Evil people don't understand justice, but those who follow the Lord understand completely."
"Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich."
"Young people who obey the law are wise; those with wild friends bring shame to their parents."
"Blessed are those who fear to do wrong, but the stubborn are headed for serious trouble."
"Greed causes fighting; trusting the Lord leads to prosperity."
"Those who trust their own insight are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe."
Proverbs 28:5,6,7,14,25,26

Proverbs 27

"The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense."
"As iron sharpens iron, as a friend sharpens a friend."
"As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person."
"Fire test the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised."
Proverbs 27:9,17,19,21

Good reminders!

Proverbs 26

"Fire goes out without wood, and quarrels disappear when gossip stops."
"A quarrelsome person starts fights as easily as hot embers light charcoal or fire lights wood."
"Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one's heart."
Proverbs 26:20,21,22

Talking about every little irritation and piece of gossip only keeps the fires of anger going. Refusing to discuss them cuts the fuel line and makes the fires die out. Does someone continually irritate you? Decide not to complain about the person, and see if your irritation dies from lack of fuel.
(Taken from the scriptural notes in my Life Application Study Bible--sorry to continue to use this, but I find that the author can better encourage or explain the scripture than I can...I am by no means an expert, I only want to encourage!)

Craziness

My little one is two...

...and she can still sit in the Bumbo - and get out of it on her own.

My 6 year old is now in the 2nd grade! One of the many joys of homeschooling!

I am the mother of 4 blessings!

Proverbs 25

"A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls."
Proverbs 25:28

Even though city walls restricted the inhabitants' movements, people were happy to have them. Without walls, they would have been vulnerable to attack by any passing group of marauders. Self-control limits us, to be sure, but it is necessary. An out-of-control life is open to all sorts of attacks by the enemy. Think of self-control as a wall for defense and protection.

Happy Birthday Makenna

It is so hard to believe that my baby girl is 2 years old! Since she has been so small in size, I have seen her as still a baby...and now she is two! I love you, Makenna! You are such a joy and blessing to our family, you busy little girl! You are so independent. Sometimes that makes mommy's job harder, but I know that someday God will use it for good! I love you!

Proverbs 24

"A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense."
"The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger."
"...For God understands all hearts, and he sees you."
"My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste. In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short."
"The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked."
"An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship."
"Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house."
Proverbs 24:3,5,12,13,14,16,26,27

These are just some that stuck out to me for encouragement as well as good reminders. Have a blessed day!

Proverbs 22 and 23

Bummer, I was hoping to not miss a day! Sorry for those of you that read these each day.
"The rich and the poor have this in common: The Lord made them both."
"Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it."
"Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender."
"A youngster's heart is filled with foolishness, but physical discipline will drive it far away."
Proverbs 22:2,6,7,15

"Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle."
"Commit yourself to instruction; listen carefully to words of knowledge."
"Don't fail to discipline your children. They won't die if you spank them.
Physical discipline may well save them from death."
"The father of godly children has cause for joy. What pleasure to have children who are wise."
Proverbs 23:4,5,12,13,14,24

Hope you had a blessed day!

Proverbs 21

"People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart."
"The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices."
"Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor."
Proverbs 21:2,3,21

The first two verses have really put me in my place. There are times I have aloud myself to be filled with pride, but God so gently humbles me and brings me back under His wing. The third verse gives me great encouragement, as I hope it brings you! God Bless!

Proverbs 20

"The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them."
"Ears to hear and eyes to see--both are gifts from the Lord."
"Wise words are more valuable than much gold and many rubies."
"The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?"
"The Lord's light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive."
"The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old."
Proverbs 20:7,12,15,24,27,29

I find it very encouraging to know that God is directing our steps. I sometimes find myself worrying about the future and what we are supposed to do, but then I am reminded that God is in control and I should not worry, but rather TRUST in HIM. (As Katelyn tells me, "Mom, you shouldn't worry because it says 'Do not worry' in the Bible.")

Whew! Made it before midnight!

Proverbs 19

"Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool."
"Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes."
"Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs."
"If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord--and he will repay you!"
"Discipline your children while there is hope. Otherwise you will ruin their lives."
"Get all the advise and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life."
"You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail."
"Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest."
Proverbs 19:1,2,11,16,17,18,20,21,22

Have a great day!

Being in the Fire

I read this on another woman's blog and wanted to share it with anyone who reads my blog. I hope this is an encouragement to you where ever you are in life. Do you feel the fire right now? Have faith...God is refining you to make you more like Him!

Malachi 3:3 ~ "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says:

"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith,

"How do you know when the silver is fully refined?"

He smiled at her and answered,

"Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."

Proverbs 18

"Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish."
Proverbs 18:13

This was one of the proverbs that I focused on with my children today, but have realized that I need to learn it as well. I am so quick to interrupt my husband (and others as well) to get in what I want to say. My dear husband does not talk much, and I am constantly asking his opinion or thoughts, yet then I go and interrupt him. Please forgive me my dear husband...and Lord, help me to hear others out and focus on what they are saying, not what I want to tell them next.

Proverbs 17

"Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart."
Proverbs 17:3

'It takes intense heat to purify gold and silver. Similarly, it often takes the heat of trials for the Christian to be purified. Through trials, God shows us what is in us and clears out anything that gets in the way of complete trust in him. So when tough times come your way, realize that God wants to use them to refine your faith and purify your heart.'

Proverbs 16

"Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed."
Proverbs 16:3

This verse is very special to me. When I was pregnant with Katelyn I had no idea what God had in store for me after she was born. I wanted to stay home, but we did not think at the time that we could afford it. We had just bought a house and a new car (I wish we had known about Dave Ramsey back then). We "needed" our two incomes. A friend that I taught with gave me this verse to encourage me. I typed it up and enlarged it very big to hang by my desk. It really encouraged me during that time and has ever since. I ended up working part time for several more years, but finally was blessed to be able to stay home. I have realized that God had this planned out for me all along, but we slowed the process by making financial choices that we thought we "needed". I have learned so much over the last few years. I know that God wants me home with my children, and He has shown me that by provided for our NEEDS. All we had to do was take that step of FAITH!

Happy Birthday Chris

Yesterday was my next youngest brother's 29th birthday! Chris and I are the closest in age of all of our siblings. Growing up we fought a lot as my brothers all liked to gang up on me, but now as adults we are truly friends. Chris lives here in town with his wife and 3 children. Steph is a music teacher and Chris is student teaching to earn his teaching certificate. They are also very involved in their church in Meridian.
Chris, I hope that you had a wonderful birthday! I love you, brother! Jesus loves you even more!

Proverbs 15

"A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare."
"The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good."
"Gentle words are a tree of life;"
"There is treasure in the house of the godly, but earnings of the wicked bring trouble."
"...but he delights in the prayers of the upright."
"...but he loves those who pursue godliness."
"A happy heart makes a happy face;"
"Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil."
"...a sensible person stays on the right path."
"The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words."
"A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health."
"Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor."
Proverbs 15:1,3,4,6,8,9,13,16,21,28,30,33

Many of these have brought great encouragement to me, especially verse 16 where it talks about how it is better to have little with fear of the Lord than great treasure and inner turmoil. I know there are many people out there with great riches but no joy. I may not have much materialistically, but I do have Joy in the Lord! I would much rather have my family and friends (whom I can take to heaven with me) than all the riches of the world. Praise the Lord!

Happy Birthday Charlie

Today is my youngest brother's 18th birthday!
Charlie was a boy full of energy and curiosity. He was a pretty smart kid and enjoyed sharing all of his knowledge with you. Most of Charlie's growing up years were while I have been down here for college and beyond. He spent most of last year down here living with another brother and gave us the chance to get to know him again. He loves guitars and has told me that he would someday love to build them. I hope he pursues this dream.
Charlie, I love you very much and I hope that you had a wonderful birthday! Jesus loves you very much!
Happy Birthday!

Proverbs 14

"A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.
Those who follow the right path fear the Lord; those who take the wrong path despise him.
Those who fear the Lord are secure; he will be a refuge for their children.
Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death.
People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.
A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
Proverbs 14:1,2,26,27,29,30

Have a blessed day!

Proverbs 13

"A wise child accepts a parent's discipline;"
"The life of the godly is full of light and joy;"
"Wise people think before they act;"
"Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them."
Proverbs 13:1,9,16,24

I hope that everyone is having a good day and feels God's blessings!

Just for fun!

Yes, I still love the man!

Her favorite past time...and many times she actually goes!

Good ole game of Twister! My mother-in-law won!

Proverbs 12

"A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted."
Proverbs 12:16

This chapter is packed full of wisdom, but I decided to focus on this one for my kids today. We talked about how God wants us to be wise and not foolish. We discussed different ways that we can stay calm and respond kindly when others frustrate or hurt us. I think one of the biggest ways that we can teach them is by showing them. It can be a challenge some days, but I try really hard to respond to them in a way that Jesus would want for me to, and therefore showing them how I (and Jesus) expect for them to respond to others.

Proverbs 11

"Riches won't help on the day of judgment,
but right living can save you from death."

This passage is very encouraging to me. In our world, riches is what sets the standard of success, but in God's world it is trusting and obeying Him. We can not take our money to heaven, yet so many seem to think it is the most important to acquire. We can take our family, friends, and our children to heaven, so focusing on our relationships will give us eternal rewards!

Proverbs 10

"A wise child brings joy to a father;"
"The godly are showered with blessings;"
"Wise words come from the lips of people with understanding;"
"Wise people treasure knowledge;"
"People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life;"
"The words of the godly are like sterling silver;"
"The words of the godly encourage many;"
"...living wisely brings pleasure to the sensible."
"...the hopes of the godly will be granted."
"When the storms of life come,...the godly have a lasting foundation."
"The hopes of the godly result in happiness;"
"The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity."
Proverbs 10 - I focused on the encouraging parts throughout the chapter. I hope that you are encouraged!

Proverbs 9

"Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgement."
"Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment."
"If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit."
Proverbs 9:6,10,12

I obviously only wrote a small portion of this chapter, but in it is a comparison of wisdom and foolishness. They are portrayed as rival young women, each preparing a feast and inviting people to it. Wisdom is a responsible woman of character, while Folly (foolishness) is a prostitute serving stolen food. Wisdom appeals to the mind; Folly to the senses. It is easier to excite the senses, but the pleasures of Folly are temporary. By contrast, the satisfaction that Wisdom brings lasts forever. I encourage you to not let anything become more important than your search for God's wisdom!
(Taken from scripture notes in my Life Application Study Bible)

Proverbs 8

"I love all who love me.
Those who search will surely find me.
I have riches and honor, as well as enduring wealth and justice.
My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver!
I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice.
Those who love me inherit wealth.
I will fill their treasuries."
Proverbs 8:17-21

This scripture speaks of wisdom...God's wisdom. Nothing on this earth compares to what God can offer us. Seeking after His wisdom is drawing ourselves closer to Him. I encourage you this year to draw closer to Him and seek His wisdom for your life!

Proverbs 7

"So listen to me, my sons, and pay attention to my words.
Don't let your hearts stray away toward her.
Don't wander down her wayward path.
For she has been the ruin of many; many men have been her victims.
Her house is the road to the grave.
Her bedroom is the den of death."
Proverbs 7:24-27

Proverbs 7 is mainly written to warn young men about immoral women, but I think that we can all learn from this scripture. Most temptations follow the same strategies that Proverbs 7 warns about. We need to recognize these strategies and make sure that our lives are full of God's Word and wisdom to fight against temptation.
God Bless!

Proverbs 6

"My son, obey your father's commands, and don't neglect your mother's instructions.
Keep their words always in your heart.
Tie them around your neck.
When you walk, their counsel will lead you.
When you sleep, they will protect you.
When you wake up, they will advise you.
For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light;
their corrective discipline is the way to life."
Proverbs 6:20-23

Oh, if only we could write this on our children's hearts! I pray for each of us as we guide our children to a relationship with Christ!
Have a Blessed day!

Proverbs 5

"Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.
Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
She is a loving deer, a graceful doe.
Let her breasts satisfy you always.
May you be captivated by her love."

This part is mainly for the husband, but I think that wives can also learn from it. We need to cherish our husbands as well, and not compare them or fantasize what they could be. I struggle with this when I get caught up in Christian Romance novels. I enjoy reading them, but I find myself comparing Josh to the husband character. I have had to really pray about this and monitor the novels that I read. I have been very blessed with the husband God has given me, and I would never want to take that for granted. I want to encourage each of us to be "captivated by their love!"

Proverbs 4

"My children, listen when your father corrects you.
Pay attention and learn good judgement, for I am giving you good guidance.
My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life.
I will teach you wisdom's ways and lead you in straight paths.
My child, pay attention to what I say.
Listen carefully to my words.
Don't lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.
Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path."

Proverbs 4:1-2, 10-11, 20-23, 25-26

One of our greatest privileges as parents is to teach our children about the Lord. It is our responsibility to encourage our children to become wise. We can pass our wisdom on to our children, but ultimately, all wisdom comes from the Lord, so we need to urge them to turn to Him. I pray for each of us (myself included) as we embark on this journey to raise our children to be Godly human beings.

Happy Birthday Brenden!

Wow, I can not believe that my baby boy is 4! I remember the day that God brought you into the world. My sweet little boy, you have been such a joy to our lives. You are always so happy and love to have fun. Your favorite thing to do: PLAY! Your silly nature always makes me smile. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful little boy that loves Jesus so much. I know that you will grow to be a Godly man, following God's will for your life! I love you Brenden!

Proverbs 3

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
Proverbs 3:5-6

I think this is one of my favorite verses. I think that so many times in our world people only think they need to trust God for the big things or when things are going well, but God wants us to trust Him in everything. I think that there are also many that fear putting their trust in an unseen God, without realizing how incomplete we are without Him. We can do nothing on our own and the greatest choice we can make is to put our complete trust in Him. I cannot tell you how blessed my family has been in the last month...we put our complete faith in Christ, and He was faithful, loving, and gracious! Give God everything and I think that you will be pleasantly surprised at the outcome! Praise the Lord!

Proverbs 2

"Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to Him.
Then you will understand what is right, just and fair, and you will find the right way to go.
For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will fill you with joy."
Proverbs 2:2-10

What an encouragement these verses are to me. To have JOY in Christ is such a precious thing. By seeking Him daily and searching for His wisdom, we can have JOY in Him! Praise His Name!
I hope each of you that reads this finds JOY today!

Proverbs 1

The Purpose of Proverbs:
"...to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise.
...to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair.
They will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young."
"Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge..."
Proverbs 1:2-4,7 (New Living Life Application Bible)

I want to encourage you to seek out God's wisdom through His Word. There have been many times in my life when I have come upon a struggle and immediately sought out the answers from friends, family, books, etc. Though these can all offer support or affirmation, I have realized that I first need to seek out Christ and His guidance. He has a plan for each step of our lives, including the times that we struggle. I have found great guidance through the Proverbs. I want to encourage you to read Proverbs everyday, especially with your children. Let us fill them with God's wisdom while they are young and encourage them to seek out His Will for their lives.
God Bless!
